Six Steps to Staging Your Living Room
One of the main questions home sellers have is this: "Should we stage our home or leave it empty?" The answer is simple: Stage it. Homes tend to sell faster and at better prices when they are staged. Here are six important steps to staging your living room for an optimal price and a fast sale.
1. Paint the living room with neutral colors but use bright accents. Pillows and throws are great accents to any room which can easily catch the buyer's attention and they break up the monotony of the neutral walls without being obnoxious.
2. Use smaller furniture to give the room the appearance of being larger. Smaller couches, loveseats and chairs are good for smaller living rooms, but they can make larger living rooms look even larger.
3. Add a few plants to the living room. Plants help make a living room come to live. Add a couple large plants to the corners but don't overdo it. A few plants are enough to liven up the living area.
4. Create conversation areas with the furniture. Instead of having all of the furniture facing the television, create areas for conversation by setting the furniture in a U-type shape. You might even want to consider doing away with the TV during the staging process.
5. Place mirrors strategically throughout the living room. A couple large mirrors will give your living room the appearance of being larger. Add a large mirror over the fireplace or in another strategic area in the living room for more dimension and depth.
6. Place some tasteful knickknacks around the living room and group them in odd number, either 3, 5 or 7. Make sure the knickknacks are not obnoxious and they add a sense of style or accent to the room for optimal appeal.
